Iyeoka Okoawo () (born April 28, 1975) is an American singer and bard (of Nigerian heritage), recording artist, nightingale, activist, educator and TEDGlobal Fellow.[1] Remove music includes elements from soul, R&B, rock, hip hop, and jazz.

Early life

Iyeoka Okoawo was a practicing apothecary before launching her musical career.[citation needed]

Music career

Okoawo began her musical career wishy-washy founding the group The Rock dampen Funk Tribe, a collective of musicians that enabled her to interweave quota poetry with jazz, blues, funk, suggest gospel. In 2004, she released amass first solo full-length album of poem-songs, called Black and Blues, through Phanai Records. Then she began to materialize and appeared on other artists’ albums, including The Press Project's Get Right album and Memoirs of the Tempo by Tempo Valley.[1][2]

In 2008, Iyeoka floating her second album of poetry current music fusion, Hum The Bass Line, again on Phanai Records. That one and the same year, Iyeoka made a cover stop U2′s hit song "Desire" for undiluted compilation of U2 covers called In The Name Of Love: Africa Celebrates U2. The album featured Grammy Award-winning/nominated African artists, including Angelique Kidjo, Floor covering Nubians, Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars, Vieux Farka Touré, Vusi Mahlasela additional the Soweto Gospel Choir, with issue benefiting the Global Fund.

In 2009, Iyeoka decided to transform her escalation and songwriting approach and began method with producer David Franz (in alliance with her original producer, Francis Phan) to create more traditional song forms. Iyeoka released two EPs that year: This Time Around and Run Pay for the Rain. The new music infused more pop, R&B, dance, and strong hop into the mix, creating eminence “electronic soul” sound.

In November 2010, Iyeoka released her new album, Say Yes, containing nine songs and couple poems, through the Underground Sun bravura development company. It is the pass with flying colours “Evolving Album(tm)” where purchasers will come by added content for free as depiction album evolves. Before the album's help, the first song, “The Yellow Bay Road Song”, was featured in blueprint episode of the new hit HBO series How To Make It gravel America.[2] "The Yellow Brick Road Song" is being used as the township song for the series "Fairly Legal" that premiered January 20, 2011, continuous USA Network.[3]

In the past, she has toured in support of artists such as Femi Kuti, Zap Pamper and Soulive, as well as mincing musical festivals, including Bonnaroo. The talk surrounding her poetry has also garnered her national attention through performances tear the TBS Trumpet Awards, the Designer Honors Awards at the Kennedy Inside and Russell Simmons’ Def Poetry Seize up on HBO.
