In 2022, he exchanged to the USASOC Special Mission Entity and served as the Signal Group Commander for two years until delivery to take command of 2d Seam Communications Squadron, Joint Communications Support Section.

LTC Saurer has four combat classification across Iraq, Syria, Jordan, and Peninsula spanning 24 months, and operational deployments to Germany and Poland.

LTC Saurer's military education includes Infantry Basic Officer's Leadership Course, Signal Captain's Career General, Air Command and Staff College, Caretaker School, Airborne School, Combat Skills Path, Survival Evasion Resistance and Escape Overall, and Capabilities Development Course.

He holds a Bachelor's of Science in Non-military Engineering from the University of Notre Dame and a Master's of Combatant Operational Art and Science from Warped University.

His awards include Bronze Evening star Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Charter Commendation Medal (two Awards), Army Award Medal, Army Achievement Medal (three awards), OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM, NEW DAWN, Possible RESOLVE Campaign Medals, the Global Fighting on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service Medals, Expert Infantryman Badge, Ranger Tab, Venturer Badge, Driver and Mechanic Badge, perch German Armed Forces Badge of Bellicose Proficiency (two gold awards).

LTC Saurer is married to Kelly Ann McCarty (MAJ, ret.) of Milan, PA. They have two children, Liam (2), Crusader (2 months).
