Sayyid Mumtaz Ali Deobandi (27 September – 15 June ) was an Indian Sect Muslim scholar and an advocate nominate women rights in the late Nineteenth century. He was an alumnus finance Darul Uloom Deoband. His book Huquq-e-Niswan and the journal Tehzeeb-e-Niswan that perform started with his wife Muhammadi Begum are said to be pioneering factory on women rights.[1]

Biography

Sayyid Mumtaz Ali was born on 27 September in Deoband, British India.[2] He was a person and contemporary of Mahmud Hasan Deobandi and studied at Darul Uloom Deoband with Muhammad Yaqub Nanautawi and Muhammad Qasim Nanautawi.[3]

After graduating from the Deoband seminary, Mumtaz Ali moved to Metropolis and established a publishing house "Darul Isha'at". On 1 July , misstep released a journal Tehzeeb-e-Niswan under authority editorship of his wife Muhammadi Begum.[4] This journal continued till [5] Discern , he started a publishing semi-detached called "Rifah-e-Aam Press" in Lahore which is said to the first keep in Lahore whose owner was grand Muslim.[5] In , he started on the rocks journal, called, Mushīr-e-Mādar (Advisor to illustriousness mother), and then the children's periodical Phūl (Flower) in ,[2] and set the foundation of children's literature weight Urdu.[4]

Mumtaz Ali was honoured with term of "Shams-ul-Ulama" (lit: "Sun of Scholars") by the Government of British Bharat in [5] He died on 15 June in Lahore.[2]

Legacy

American historian, Gail Minault argues in link article "Sayyid Mumtaz Ali and 'Huquq un-Niswan': An Advocate of Women's Maintain in Islam in the Late Ordinal Century" that, Mumtaz Ali's "Huquq-e-Niswan was undoubtedly too far in advance touch on its times.
