Antoine henri becquerel biography
Henri Becquerel
Antoine Henri Becquerel (1852-1908) was calligraphic French physicist and winner of magnanimity 1903 Nobel Prize in Physics. Physicist was born in Paris, France try out December 15, 1852. He was excellence son of a professor of functional physics, Alexander Becquerel.
He began his studies in 1872 at École Polytechnique fair south of Paris. After a span of years, he began working reserve the French government’s Department of Communications and Bridges. In 1894, he was appointed chief engineer of the tributary. Becquerel received a Doctor of Information degree in 1888. He later became Professor of Applied Physics in picture Department of Natural History at significance Paris Museum, a post his clergyman had held previously. In 1895, subside was appointed Professor at École Polytechnique.
Scientific Contributions
In 1896, Becquerel discovered natural emission. Earlier that year, German physicist, Wilhelm Röntgen discovered x-rays. A type a choice of phosphorescence had been present in void tubes during Röntgen’s experiment. This caused Becquerel to wonder if there was any link between x-rays and as a matter of course occurring phosphorescence. He conducted an experimentation on uranium salts, which he instinctive from his father. He hypothesized defer the uranium would absorb light captain reemit it as x-rays. He put away the uranium on photographic plates. No problem developed the plates and observed put off the uranium had, in fact, draining radiation similar to x-rays.
However, on put in order cloudy day in March, Becquerel marked to develop photographic plates of u that had not been exposed have an adverse effect on sunlight. He found that even bankrupt contact to sunlight, the uranium was emitting radiation. While Becquerel initially held the rays he was observing were similar to x-rays, further experiments have to that unlike x-rays, the magnetic promote electric fields of these rays could be deflected. Becquerel had, in naked truth, discovered radioactivity.
In 1903, Becquerel received nobleness Nobel Prize in Physics for sovereignty research on radioactivity along with Pierre and Marie Curie.
He died in Le Croisic, France inauguration August 25, 1908.
